Roadmap to an exciting shower

It helps to think of your baby shower as having several key areas. This'll help you plan the event better. Let the expectant mother's wishes be your guide, when you're not sure about something.

The kind of shower:
Do you want a formal party? An informal one? Co-ed? Girls only? Theme / no theme? This is where you think in broad brush strokes. It lays the foundation for everything else.

Location:
This will depend, in part, on your choices above.

Guest list:
Basically, invite anyone the expectant mommy wants present.

Games and other activities:
How do you want your shower to unfold? What happens when? What games do you want to have? Include games only if mom-to-be wants to have them.

Menu:
Food is a key part of all showers. Consider mommy-to-be's preferences (and dislikes!). Take care to avoid foods that she's not allowed to have as per her doctor's advice. Will you have catered food or will you get together with a few friends and cook your own?

Invitations:
Decide on the kind of invitations you want to send out. Do you want to hand-make invites (can be fun!) or purchase them?

Decorations:
This will be dictated by your theme (if you choose to have one). Plus, choice of location may impose some constraints sometimes.

Other stuff:
Decide on the gift registry you'll use. Will you give favors to guests? Game prizes? You may want to put up street signs if many guests don't know the location too well.

See the menu below for more information on these areas.
