Decorations set the tone at
these lovely events
Imaginative decorations are the best way to create the right atmosphere at baby
showers! You can create
outstanding shower decorations easily and simply -- and without blowing a
hole in your wallet either. See the foregoing link for more details.
Meanwhile, here's something that looks terrific at baby showers -- a balloon
arch. This will look great anywhere, especially behind the gifts table at your
shower. It's a real conversation piece and also looks awesome in photos!
It is not difficult to make one. Slightly over-inflate balloons using helium and
let a small quantity of gas out of each before tying the neck. This is to make
the balloon more pliable and easier to handle.
Next, twist two balloons together at the neck. Two or three twists will do. Tie
them together. Make one more such pair. Now hold these two pairs together at the
necks and twist them together about three times. This forms a cluster of four
balloons. Make many such 4-balloon clusters.
Take a piece of cardboard and run a monofilament line through its center. Secure
the line at two ends of the arch, leaving enough slack to allow arch formation.
Place the cardboard towards one end of this line.
Your next step is to mount one balloon cluster onto the line. Just slip the line
between two balloons. Use your hand to hold the balloons apart while you slip
the line between them. Place this cluster against the cardboard piece that the
line runs through.
Now mount a second cluster of four balloons onto the line and place it against
the first. Continue in this fashion until the arch is complete.
While mounting the balloons, don't slide them along the line. This may result in
burst or leaky balloons. For an enhanced look, use different colored balloons in
each cluster. You may want to suspend curling ribbons from various points along
the arch, to make it look as it the arch is a rainbow from which it's raining!
